Guided By the Holy Spirit, St. Matthew's has a new website!

St. Matthew's vision statement says: St. Matthew’s is a passionate, imperfect community of Christ.
We BOLDLY affirm people of all cultures, ages, abilities, stories and experiences, skin tones, sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions.
We trust in the ridiculous love of God that shows no partiality. When our unique identities are used to divide or hurt us, we are committed to reconciliation and healing so that justice, racial equity, grace, and inclusion continue to be our way of life.

A New Look. A Renewed Welcome. Explore Our New Website!

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news. St. Matthew’s has a brand new website! This fresh and beautifully designed space is not only a digital upgrade; it is also an open invitation into the heart of our community. Thanks to the creativity, dedication, and deep love of Andrea Simpson, the St. Matthew's webmaster, our new site reflects our mission to share the ridiculous love of God with the world.

Andrea has poured countless hours into this project with care, imagination, and purpose. From integrating online registrations to creating dynamic pages that highlight our ministries, community partners, and events, her thoughtful design invites both longtime members and new visitors to explore, engage, and connect. With the help of staff and volunteers, she has crafted something that mirrors the spirit of St. Matthew’s—welcoming, bold, and full of contagious love.

This website launch is part of a year-long effort to strengthen how we communicate and care for one another. Alongside the website, we have updated our church database, thanks to Jill Larson, Kate Brenden and Sonia Gunderson. We are also preparing to launch a mobile app that will help everyone stay informed and connected with ease.

The new wesite site also features content that reflects our core commitments as a congregation. You can now read about our designation as a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) church and explore our Land and Labor Acknowledgment, which are both vital expressions of our journey toward justice and inclusion.

We warmly invite you to visit the new website, stmatthewsrenton.org and explore its offerings, and celebrate this milestone with us. If you notice anything missing or have suggestions for what might be helpful, please let us know.

A heartfelt thank you to Andrea for her extraordinary labor of love. This new website is a gift and a doorway for many to encounter the Spirit alive at St. Matthew’s.

Though we bring different gifts, it is the same Spirit who makes them alive in us...

Hello St. Matthew's Family and Friends! My name is Charis Wirtley, and I am the new Children, Youth, & Family Coordinator! Words cannot begin to express how excited I am to start this new journey here with such a loving and welcoming congregation! It has been a long journey to get to this point, and I am absolutely ecstatic to get to call St. Matthew's and Washington my new home! I am no stranger to the ELCA, as I grew up as a pastor's daughter! I got to live in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Texas, so I have lived all over! While we lived in Texas, I attended Blinn College to get my Associate of Arts in Music. After graduating from Blinn College, I transferred to Texas Lutheran University where I received dual degrees in Vocal Performance and Theology (with a pre-counseling concentration)! I'm not sure what y'all would like to know about me, so I decided to make a random paragraph of things I like to do and things I care about (so if this paragraph feels all over the place, that's why). Outside of work, I love to play the Sims 4 on my laptop, play guitar, read, and write poetry! I have a deep love for my family: my dad Jerry, my mom Krista, and my two younger sisters Carina and Calea! I love the colors pastel yellow and pastel green! I have a deep commitment to radical love and the knowledge that all people are created in the image of God and nothing will separate us from the unconditional love of God, no matter what the world may say! I am so ready to begin the amazing life of Children, Youth, & Family Coordinator and I hope to just uplift the incredible work already happening to new levels where we can continue to build and grow such an amazing program for children & youth here at St. Matthew's! If you have any questions for me, or any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to find me Sunday mornings or email me! I would love to hear from you! Thank you for such a warm welcome! Grateful and Ready, Charis Wirtley Children, Youth, & Family Coordinator
